We have been studying birds at homeschool, and making nests was the natural progression of our studies. This activity was fun for both older children and toddlers!

First, we studied the book The Nest is Noisy. The book has the most beautiful illustrations and explanations of everything nest-related! At the end of the book, there was a page of pictures of various nests. I gave my children play dough and asked to find some natural materials, like twigs and branches and pine needles in order to recreate the nests on photos.

This project was remarkably educational and alive: one of our definite favorites!
