How To Make Vanilla Extract?  First of all, why would you make it? Homemade vanilla extract is made easily, but most importantly, it has no harmful additives and tastes a hundred times better than anything you buy at the store. Additionally, it is much cheaper. You can give this vanilla extract out as a gift, even to people who don’t cook. They would just sniff the sweet extract and be happy.

Imitation and clear vanilla extracts use artificial flavors and harmful chemicals. Pure vanilla extract should be dark brown, which is the color of vanilla beans used in the extraction process.

How To Make Vanilla Extract


  • 8 oz. Glass Bottle or Jar
  • Vanilla Beans
  • 1 cup Vodka 70 Proof/35% Alcohol (or Bourbon, Rum or Brandy)


Slice each bean once long-ways and place in bottle. Pour one cup of alcohol into the bottle, so that the vanilla is submerged completely. shake gently and wait for 8 weeks, after which you can use the extract. Store it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight,
