Childhood Injuries: What To do When Your Child is Seriously Injured

It would be nice if the only boo-boo we had to worry about our children getting throughout life were bumps, scrapes, and bruises. As a mother, your biggest fear is that something serious will happen to your child that a kiss and a bandage won’t cure. Unfortunately, you can’t shield your child from all the potential dangers out there. The best you can do is take every precaution necessary and when trouble does arise, know exactly what to do and who to call to fix it.

Car Accidents

Car accidents happen every second of the day. While some are minor, others are severe and result in injuries and even death. Whether you have a tiny tot that you strap into a car seat or a teen who just got their license, a mother always worries when her child is behind the wheel.

While taking preventative measures like responsible driving and teaching your teen the importance of being safe on the road can minimize the chances of an accident, you’ll still need to be prepared. Any sports mom knows the risks their children take when playing the game. Whether it’s soccer, basketball, football, or softball, the potential for getting hurt comes with the territory. While a scratch or scrape can easily be fixed with some tools from a first aid kit, you’ll need to take extra steps for pulled muscles, broken bones, and concussions. It is ideal to get your child to the doctor immediately for x-rays and evaluation to determine the extent of the damage. From there, simply follow the doctor’s orders to help your child fully recover.

If only we could find a way to put our children inside of a safety bubble until they get older. Since it hasn’t been invented yet, the best thing you can do as a parent is prepared and know exactly what to do should your child get seriously injured. While panic may set in, your quick thinking and action will ensure your child that everything is going to be ok. And that is what moms do best.
