Toddlers don’t always grasp the number value. The numbers have to make sense to toddlers in a sensory way. There is no better sensory material than play dough, in my opinion.

The play dough has to be all of the same color, not to distract. To teach Play Dough Numbers For Toddlers, you need the play dough and some index cards with numbers on them.

Try not to overwhelm the child with many numbers at first. Just 1,2 and 3 are fine. Then, gradually add one new number every couple of days until you have gone through the first ten.

Play Dough Numbers For Toddlers

Lay out the number cards and ask the child to make balls out of play dough. The balls have to be roughly of the same size. Place the right number of balls under each card. Trace the number on the card with your finger and count the balls out loud. Ak the toddler to repeat after you. Then remove the play dough balls and ask the toddler to do it on his/her own.
